We are settled...for now.

Jimmy and I have been fortunate to have found some property in New Caney, just 2 miles from his shop (not 20)!  A good customer of his has 1/2 acre next to his property that is vacant, but was set up for utilities.  So relieved to be closer to his work and to Daisy!  And relieved that the new landlord is much easier to get along with!

We were just talking today about her and we wondered about getting her out of storage so that we can work on her.  It will be hard to ignore her everyday if she is sitting in the driveway.  While I hand over our rent, I will blink innocently and ask and hope for the best.  I am not really worried.  They are a cool couple.  So cool, they are building a fence across the entire front of the property to keep neighborhood dogs out and give us a chance to let our two out without having to keep them on a leash.  Just so frustrated with these stray dogs peeing on everything I own!

So, imagine my excitement when Jimmy suggested bringing Daisy out of storage so that we can finish the demo and move on with this project.  We will eventually get there.  I was hoping this would be our year, but I am patient.  I just see it as time that I can work on my recipes.

I am hoping that as time goes by, I will have more frequent posts as well as pictures as we go through this process of renovation and opening our very own small business!  And hoping that some people out there will appreciate the posts and possibly use them as a reference to their own project!

A Year Has Gone By Already???

I just realized that a year has already gone by. Forgive me, but because no work has been done on Daisy, I really didn't have anything to report. Poor thing has been sitting in storage this whole time and I feel bad. And antsy to get this going!

We moved 20 miles away from Jimmy's work/Daisy's temp home, so it is easy to blow off driving in to work on her. Besides, we have had a hotter than hot summer here and neither one of us was motivated to do anything anyway. We are trying to move back to the area, but it it difficult to find something to suit our needs. We are definately not moving back into a park, so trying to find some private property to rent that has existing full utilities for an RV is nerve-racking and pretty much non-existant. Even if I do find something, I can't get anyone to return my emails or calls. I would even settle for a tiny house at this point and just sell the 5th wheel.

I am still searching for a job and have come to the conclusion that they don't exist. Because I need a flexible retail job (Jimmy and I share a vehicle and need similiar hours), I think I am losing out to kids who will work for minimum wage. Pretty depressing for someone who has a college education and lots of retail experience. I am not looking to run the place, I just want a job so that I can dump that money into Daisy!

Another sad event that has happened this last year is that we had to put Cinnamon down for a possible brain leasion. The seizures happened rather quickly and I declined to let the vet do any brain surgery. I love her so much, but I just couldn't let her suffer anymore. It affected me deeply. She was a perfect example of how great her particular breed really is. I have never bonded so well with any other dog. I miss her so much.

I spent a couple of weeks with dad this past fall to help him with the 1946 Chevy pickup that he is giving me (and will be Daisy's tow vehicle one day). He bought the truck back in the 90's and fixed it up enough that it was drivable. My mom drove that thing everywhere! After she passed in 2002, the truck sat in the yard for years before Dad and I decided we needed to do something. Since then, he has been working on it getting it ready and has decided to hand it over to me. I decided to have it re-painted the same color that Mom picked even if it was expensive, but Dad never said anything about it. He also suprised me several years ago when he had the bench seat upholstered and had the lady stitch in a Double T for my alma mater (Texas Tech University). Renovations have been flying by here lately because I decided I wanted to pull Daisy with it. Maybe I will have it by this summer.

Jimmy informed me yesterday that the money that he receives from selling his '66 Pontiac Belvedere will go straight into Daisy. Maybe we will get this up and going this summer!
